Photovoltaic

Solar is the fastest-growing renewable: it generated 30% more in 2025 and totals about 2,460 MW. The farms are in La Puna and Cuyo, where radiation is among the highest in the world.

The largest farms

  • El Quemado (Mendoza, YPF Luz): 305 MW, commissioned in 2026; entered the RIGI.
  • Cauchari (Jujuy): 300 MW at more than 4,000 meters above sea level, since 2020.
  • San Juan Sur (San Juan): 129 MW, commissioned in 2026.
  • San Juan is the province with the most solar farms: the one in Ullum (2011) was the country's first plant.
  • Main companies: YPF Luz, Genneia, MSU Green Energy and 360 Energy, among others.

What comes next

Of all the projects with dispatch priority in the MATER awaiting commissioning (4,294 MW), Catamarca has 1,105 MW, Buenos Aires 834 and Mendoza 515: a good part are solar. Distributed generation is also growing: 4,734 users with 159.5 MW as of June 2026, led by Córdoba.

What it means for a supplier

  • A solar farm is a massive installation project: pile driving, structures with trackers, cabling, inverters, transformer stations and a substation.
  • Panel cleaning, electrical maintenance and security are permanent contracts.
