The market in numbers

How much solar, wind and battery storage the world has, how much the neighbors and how much Argentina. The country has less than 0.5% of the world's solar and wind, and rooftop panels are almost undeveloped.

2.5 GWof utility-scale solar and 0.1 GW on rooftops: 0.1% of the world
4.5 GWof wind in 1,240 turbines averaging 3.6 MW
1.4 GWof batteries awarded and almost nothing in operation
≈17%of electricity comes from sun and wind (world: 17%, Chile: 47%)

What it means for a supplier

  • Argentina is far behind in solar and batteries: the room for growth is huge. Plant construction, structures, cabling, substations, civil works and maintenance.
  • Rooftop solar barely exists (2 W per capita versus 200 in Brazil): installers, panel and inverter distributors, and financing for SMEs and households.
  • Battery storage starts with 1.4 GW awarded: electrical works, containers, transformers, control systems and fire protection.
